So an unexpected pleasure of living here in Montreal, is the fact that every August, the Roger’s Cup master’s tennis tourney takes place here at Jarry Park. The men’s and women’s rotate between here and Toronto each year, so that means every two year’s my mother flies out here and we go hardcore tennis watching. And man, what a great tournament it is. Incredibly well-organized, fun, intimate, and really inexpensive.

Since I got to see Roger up close, I suppose it was only fair mom saw Rafa up close.

We would love to have been able to take my mom back to Wimbledon for her to relive her times there (like when John Neucomb gave her the last packet of bacon in the shops), but it’s so complicated to get tickets. But Roger’s Cup is really like a dream come true. And the first year we attended my mother actually got to see Roger Federer play–which was actually the only thing she had on her bucket list. And she saw him up close. Therein lies the beauty of this tourney, you can actually get right up close (especially during the ‘fun day’), and the practice courts are open for all to see, and at the smaller courts you’re watching matches just ten feet away from top players.

No, no, why are you putting that back on?
